Africans hang bunches of Aloe Vera above their doorway to ward off evil spirits.Egyptians hand Aloe Vera Plants over the doors of new homes as a symbol of luck.Mexicans hang potted Aloes near doorways so visitors enter with good intentions. Mexican storekeepers use them as luck-bringers to increase trade.

In some countries newlyweds are offered an Aloe Vera plant wrapped in paper, who should neither water or plant it. So long as the Aloe Vera continues to put out new shoots (up to seven years) the couple is supposed to have good luck.
